Quebec by Pierre Bourbonnais As I have said in an earlier mail the songs "Mourir avant 15 ans" and "Whales of Tadoussac" where inspired in Quebec 5 years ago when the Nits came to play at the "Festival International de Quebec". Here is some background that help to understand ( I guess ) the lyrics, althought these are rather more obvious than others... "Mourir avant 15 ans" was the name of an exposition at "Musee du Quebec". Henk went to that exposition and saw the photographs of the dead children, liying, lifeless from the stupidity of war. The fact that Henk went to the exposition I know because he told us last year when the Nits came back for the same festival, altought I knew it since I myself went to the same exposition ( I live in Quebec city ). When you leave the museum by the front door, you face the Saint Lawrence river and you see the old port. In the summer, there si quite a lot of activities, especially during the festival where there are clowns in the streets, etc. It's really a nice time to visit Quebec. So the contrast of the children and the photograph of the World War can't only make us realize the horrors of war. This song is rather special when you can "walk it". I mean since you can go the the museum, walk Saint-Jean street and see the Saint-Lauwrence river. As for "Whales of Tadoussac", the Saint-Lawrence river goein into the Atalantic ocean. Each year, as the summer ends whales get in the river and there are excursions to go see them. One good spot for humpback whales is.. Tadoussac, about 2-3 hours from Quebec city. If you'd want, you can see blue whales in Newfoudland... but that's a lot further :-) Daniel, the Atomic friend, took em to see the whales at tadoussac. The key lyrics in the song is "Take your time", and it's obvious when you see these huges mammals in the water : they do take their time ! Somehow, this should also apply to us, humans. We usually don't take anough time to appreciate life. We rush through everything. BTW, Daniel own a bar in Quebec city, "La fourmi atomique" ( The Atomic Ant ). He once saw one of their show while in France and had the band come for the Festival aforementionned.
